Anon Sól 71VII/3 — hungri ‘with hunger’

Menn sá ek þá,        er mjök höfðu
        hungri farit hörund;
englar guðs        lutu öllum þeim;
        þat er it æzta unað.

Ek sá menn þá, er mjök höfðu farit hörund hungri; englar guðs lutu þeim öllum; þat er it æzta unað.

I saw men then who had greatly afflicted their flesh with hunger; God’s angels bowed to them all; that is the highest delight.

readings

[3] hungri: so 2797ˣ, hungr í 166bˣ, papp15ˣ, 738ˣ, 167b 6ˣ, 214ˣ, 1441ˣ, 10575ˣ

notes

[3] hungri ‘with hunger’: This is the reading of about half the mss, while the others share the reading of 166bˣ, probably originating in a mistake in word division.
