Hann var mikill maður og kynstór, fór hvert sumar í hernað, stundum vestur um haf, stundum í Austurveg eða suður til Fríslands. Hann hafði tvítugsessu, snekkju og vel skipaða. Hann hafði verið fyrir Nesjum og veitt Ólafi konungi lið. Og er þeir skildust þar þá hét konungur honum vináttu sinni en Eyvindur konungi liðsemd sinni hvar sem hann vildi kraft hafa. Eyvindur var um veturinn í jólaboði með Ólafi konungi og þá þar góðar gjafar honum. Þar var og þá með honum Brynjólfur úlfaldi og þá og er það hinn mesti höfuðbær. Brynjólfur orti vísu um gjafarnar og er það niðurlag að: Þá gaf konungur honum lends manns nafn og var Brynjólfur hinn mesti vinur konungs alla stund.
